March 2020 Airline Pet Travel Report

In January, we had a death of a cat on United Airlines and 2 injuries of dogs on American Airlines.

Van, an 11 year old domestic short-haired cat, was traveling from San Francisco, CA to Austin, TX on United Airlines 258 where it was discovered deceased upon arrival. Medical exam concluded the definitive cause of death was natural causes.

February 2020 Airline Pet Travel Report

December had one death of a bird and one injury of a dog both with Alaska Airlines.

Upon arrival in Anchorage, the dog was found in good condition but with bloody paws from what appeared to be from scratching the back of the kennel during transport.

January 2020 Airline Pet Travel Report

November had one injury of a dog and a death of a cat on American Airlines. The Dallas Fort Worth Cargo Team did notice the dog had trouble breathing and took it to Animal Hospital where they advised the dog should not travel, notified the owner, and the owner made arrangements for the dog to be picked up from the airport.

New Rules to Expand Airline Animal Safety Reporting

The U.S. Department of Transportation has announced new reporting requirements for U.S. based airlines. The new ruling expands the definition of animals to include all cats and dogs transported by the airline. The previous rules did not apply to breeders.
